Manchester United worried over Marcus Rashford’s injury
Marcus Rashford, the golden boy of Manchester United, did it again. Scoring the winning goal against Benefica in the Champions League. Minutes later, he’d be limping off of the pitch with a knee injury.
Mourinho, speaking post-match, said it was a knee injury that forced the 19-year old off.
“It is something in his knee. I thought it was cramp or a bit of fatigue but he said it is something he felt in his knee. I hope it is nothing important.”
For the sake of the team and fans alike, we have to hope it’s nothing serious.
Rashford, despite his age, is one of the Red Devil’s most crucial players. He can create from nothing. Completely change a game in an instant — like he managed against Benefica.
United are already lacking creative players with Pogba still sidelined with his own knee injury, and Rashford could be facing a simliar situation — if not more serious.
“It did not look it, but he felt something in his knee,” Mourinho added.
Knee injuries are always scary. A player can limp off the pitch — like Rashford did — and have serious damage to the crucial ligaments that require surgery.
Rashford has provided six goals and four assists in 13 matches this year while garnering a 7.19 match rating average, according to whoscored.com.
He may not lead the team in goals or assists, but his intangible abilities are what make him a defenses nightmare. There’s a reason he’s looked at in the same conversation as PSG’s Kylian Mbappe and Barcelon’s Ousmane Dembele.
On a day when no one for Manchester United looked like they showed up to play, Rashford once again inspired the side to victory. Sure, the 18-year old goalkeeper Svilar for Benefica made a novice mistake, but it was a savvy move for Rashford to even test him.
The young Englishman may not win this year’s Golden Boy award, but he is worth more to Manchester United than Mbappe or Dembele are to their respective clubs.
When Zlatan Ibrahimovic went down with his ACL tear in April, it was Rashford United turned to. Most players couldn’t bear the goal-scoring burden of a massive club like United, but Rashford rose to the occasion and dragged United to the Europa League final. All at the age of 19.
So for Manchester United, it would be worst case scenario if Rashford were to miss an extended amount of time. He’s the spark when United need a goal; the threat on either wing or down the middle.
