Marouane Fellaini scared Manchester United fans with a possible injury after limping off with a knee ligament damage in Belgium’s match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 29th minute.
Belgium football team manager Roberto Martínez has voiced his concerns although Fellaini was able to leave the ground without the use of crutches.
He said:
"“We are all worried about Fellaini. We fear that there’s ligament damage.”"
This suggested that his injury might have been a serious one.
It was then later revealed earlier today by the Belgian FA that Fellaini will only be out for a couple of weeks with an MCL sprain in his left knee.
The 29-year-old has been in fine form recently while covering up for the injured Paul Pogba.
The Belgian has scored four goals and assisted once so far.
Two of the goals scored were against Crystal Palace, United’s latest Premier League opponent before the international break.
Having improved massively this season, Fellaini has shown just how important he is to the team.
Manchester United will come up against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Benefica twice all in the span of one month.
In these five fixtures mentioned, three of them are away games.
With both Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick injured, losing Fellaini for a few weeks would be a huge blow for the team.
Mourinho will have a hard time picking his starting XI
There are also injury concerns over Fellaini’s teammate for both club and country, Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku had missed Belgium’s game due to an ankle injury.
Considering the number of injuries Manchester United now has, Mourinho will surely have a headache while picking his starting XI for the upcoming games.
One positive thing that can happen through this injury crisis is that Daley Blind and Scott McTominay could get minutes.
Jose will most likely be forced to go with Matic and Herrera in midfield considering the options he has.
Manchester United have had an excellent start to the season.
Although Manchester United and Manchester City are level on points, United are now second in the league table.
The only thing that separates both the teams currently is the goal difference.
Manchester City clearly has an easier fixture of games compared to United’s.
This makes every game that United play in the Premier League crucial for them. Even a draw could cost them vastly.
