Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has backed starlets Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford to be ‘Top Players’ and yearns to see both players feature in the same starting XI.
“The battle between Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial has been great to follow,” Giggs said to Sky Sports.
Both players have been in a fierce competition for the starting left winger position. Jose Mourinho has rotated the two in the starting lineups, but both continue to impress when given a chance.
Martial has already provided five goals and six assists this season, while Rashford isn’t far off with five goals and four assists to his name.
The two have only featured in the same side once this season — United’s 4-1 win over Burton Albion. The two linked up well, as they tore Burton’s backline to shreds.
According to ESPN FC, Romelu Lukaku’s ankle injury isn’t serious, but he could be eased back into the squad to prevent aggravating it. This means we could see the tandem of Rashford and Martial feature more often this season — and that’s alright with Giggs.
“I could definitely see them in the same team,” Giggs said. “With Marcus being more of a natural centre-forward whereas Martial is more of a left-sided forward but can also play centrally.

“They’ve got incredible pace so they are extremely dangerous, although to be considered top players they need to be scoring 20 goals a season.”
Lukaku has been fantastic for the Red Devils this season — his goal scoring record shows that. But having both Martial and Rashford start a match would be a wonderful change of pace if Lukaku isn’t fully fit.
Mourinho has worked his magic on Anthony Martial, and he once again looks like the Golden Boy winner from 2015. Rashford is nominated for the Golden Boy award this season, and although he might not win it, there is no doubt he is one of the top talents in Europe.
The Old Trafford faithful have seen a preview of what these two can do when unleashed together — and it’s scary.

Their pace, eye for goal, and movement causes nightmares for defenses already. And if Lukaku needs more time to get back to 100% fitness, United are in good hands with Martial and Rashford spearheading the attack.
