After Manchester United’s 4-1 defeat of Burton last night, Mourinho reserved praise for his attackers in a game where they produced some fine football.

Jose Mourinho had previously claimed that his Manchester United team have a swagger about them this season and there appears to be some truth to that claim with his players scoring 4 goals on 4 separate occasions already so far. Martial, Lingard, Mata and Rashford were all given the thumbs up by the manager.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the Portuguese tactician said, “Martial was good, Lingard was good, [Juan] Mata was good. I think everybody in attacking areas gave a good dynamic in the team and especially happiness. We look happy playing at this moment and that is what I want.”.

“Anthony Martial wanted to do things. Some he did amazingly well, others not so well but he was always trying and that commitment and happiness on the pitch is always important.”, said Mourinho. The French youngster grabbed himself a goal and Jesse was also on the scoresheet but perhaps the most impressive player was Rashford who managed a brace before being substituted.

Jose may have felt the need to rest Marcus ahead of Manchester United’s tricky away trip to Southampton on Saturday. The former Chelsea manager seems to favour the Englishman to Anthony with the Frenchman playing more game time in a relatively less important competition. The likelihood is that the manager wanted the former Monaco man to grab a goal for confidence sake.

And did he grab it well. Martial was a threat throughout the match with his incredible dribbling, quick feet and cushioning first touch. As Mourinho said, not necessarily everything he tried came off but the important thing was that he kept trying and pulling away until he successfully outfoxed the Burton goalkeeper.

With Manchester United’s attack in free-flowing mode and in-sync, one can only imagine 4 goals being scored on a regular basis this season. A huge improvement on the days when fans at Old Trafford fell asleep during games under Louis Van Gaal’s reign and let’s not even mention Moyes’ short tenure. Things are on the up for Jose and let’s hope there’s plenty more to come.
