David De Gea: It’s a dream to be at Manchester United
The Spanish goalkeeper has been heavily linked with Real Madrid for two seasons but De Gea insists that it’s a dream to play at Manchester United.
David De Gea joined Manchester United in 2011 and has seen gone on to establish himself amongst the world’s most elite goalkeepers. Speaking to none other than MUTV, the former Atletico Madrid man was keen on focussing on other matters.
“Of course, you feel really proud when people think this [interest] about you. It’s really good, but I like to keep my focus, keep working hard and doing my best. To be fair, when you are really young, you don’t think about the future too much, you just want to play with your friends.” said the Premier League winner.

De Gea then continued, pointing out his age and how he’s no longer a youngster, “When you get older, you start to dream about being there, about being at a top team, so of course it’s a dream to be at a team like Manchester United.”.
Hugely criticised at the beginning of his United career, it didn’t take David too long to prove all his doubters wrong. Since signing he’s been the clear first choice goalkeeper and has been rarely troubled for his spot on the first XI.
Mourinho may have sensed De Gea’s complacency and decided to involve Romero in more games than he has been in recent times. Sergio was the Europa League goalkeeper so to speak but by no means is he a poor or unreliable player between the sticks.
He’s proven on occasion that he’s capable as a Manchester United goalkeeper and is just unfortunate that he’s at the club at the same time David is. After all, he isn’t some random back-up and is actually Argentina’s undoubted goalkeeper, preferring to compete with his Spanish counterpart for the number 1 shirt than to leave elsewhere.
Should De Gea make his eventual, so called dream move (which he hasn’t admitted to yet), then the Red Devils may not have to look too far for a replacement. As pleasing as it was to hear David say playing for United is a dream, fans are well aware of just how close he was to a move to Real Madrid.

It’s almost a case of when and not if the deal will happen with Manchester United hoping to hold onto the world class goalkeeper for as long as possible. To be fair, Zidane’s Madrid are a free-flowing side capable of winning any trophy in comparison to United who are still in transition and aren’t a complete team yet.
