Ryan Giggs shows his concern

The ex-assistant manager and player for Manchester United Ryan Giggs has come out and shown his concerns on United starlet Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford has had an average start to the season after scoring one goal in three Premier League games for Manchester United.

The Englishmen also came off the bench to feature in England’s friendly match against Malta where he saw his team trounce 4-0, contributing by giving an assist to teammate Harry Kane.

While Marcus Rashford’s best and natural position is a striker, Jose Mourinho has been playing him at left-wing.

Thus, Marcus Rashford has had to compete with club teammate Anthony Martial for a spot in the first team.

Rashford has started in two Premier League games before being benched in the third due to Martial’s form.

He came off the bench in the third game and went on to score an important first goal for the team.

Ryan Giggs fears that the presence of Rashford’s teammates Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane will affect his chances of playing in his preferred position.

He told ITV during half-time in England’s friendly match:

"“Like you say, he’s not going to play center-forward of United too often with Lukaku, Ibrahimovic as well. For England with Kane, he’s not going to play centre-forward.”"

The Welshmen then started praising the youngster for his ability to play out wide.

Giggs then went on to compare Rashford with Theirry Henry.

He said:

"“He can definitely play out wide, but eventually he’s going to be a No 9. I see similarities with Thierry Henry myself, he’s brilliant off the left. Even if he’s playing centre-forward, he drifts off to the left where you can take players on either side.”"

Ryan Giggs then added by saying that Rashford can get the job done playing as a striker despite not playing there a lot:

"“But then, if he’s not played centre-forward a lot and all of a sudden Kane gets injured and you ask him to play up front, he can do it.”"

Will  Marcus Rashford ever play as a striker?

We saw the best out of Marcus Rashford in the 2015/16 season when he played in the striker position.

In a season where goals were the main issue, he scored goals for fun, helping us win important games such as the one against Arsenal where he scored 2.

He has to compete with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku who’s in red hot form after getting a hat-trick against Gibraltar.

Although It is definitely going to be very difficult for Rashford to play as a striker for his club and country at the moment, it is not impossible. An injury to any of his striker teammates and he’ll fit in.

Since Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still recovering from injury, an injury to any of his current striker teammates and the No 9 position is his.
