Manchester United midfielder, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, has been nominated for Premier League player of the month for August after a stunning start to his second season at the club.

Fellow Manchester United players Phil Jones and Romelu Lukaku have also been nominated but it’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s recognition that has come as a bit of a surprise. The quick footed Armenian has lit up Old Trafford in the first 3 games of the season as he’s taken the month of August by the scruff of the neck.

He’s notched up 5 assists in the Premier League already in comparison to just the one in last season’s edition. It appears that the former Dortmund man means serious business this year and should he continue his fine form, he may just carry United to the title single handedly.

In his last year in Germany, he managed double figures for goals and assists, many will be hoping he can do the same for the Red Devils. Henrikh is managing double the forward passes per game according to Squawka and just about triple the key passes in a stellar August.

Mkhitaryan has naturally looked better when opposition teams have been forced to come out of their shell after conceding the opener. Not only is he quick on his feet but he’s also a fast thinker and appears at his best when Manchester United are countering, ready to deliver the killer ball to unlock the enemy.

While his vision and passing abilities are highly rated at Old Trafford, Henrikh also has a fair bit of pace on him, capable of having a burst of pace or twisting defenders inside out with his dribbling. Mourinho has already pointed out that the player understands his manager better this year and it seems to be paying off with the team reaping the benefits after the dazzling midfielder’s first transitional season.

Hopefully Mkhitaryan will open his account in the Premier League too this season as he aims to be even more complete than ever before. Last season he seemed to play well in the Europa League but struggled with the pace of England’s top division. If he continues his recent fine form, it may be that the Premier League will struggle to keep up with the Armenian maestro instead this year.
