Jose Mourinho: Manchester United summer spending finished
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes the Red Devil’s summer transfer business could be at an end, as the Portuguese doesn’t foresee any new signings before the window shuts in 13 days.
Mourinho, who has insisted on bringing in four new signings this summer, may have to make work with the reinforcements Ed Woodward has captured.
United have spent a combined £149m bringing in Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic, and Romelu Lukaku.
“I’m happy with the squad we have. I’m ready to go without the fourth player. If we are out of market, I’m fine, I’m ready.” Mourinho said at his news conference Friday.
It was rumored that Ivan Perisic was Mourinho’s preferred final signing of the summer. Ultimately the Red Devils refused to meet Inter’s asking price for the Croatian winger, per the Daily Star.
Mourinho said last week he would be content with the three signings made by the club already: “I understand the reality of the numbers, and I also understand that my club, by doing 75% of what I initially asked, I think the club did very well.”
“I told Mr. Woodward my plans were four but I also told him be cool, no pressure from me, do what you think is best for the club.
“We will be together again for another transfer window in January and next summer so no pressure from me at all. I’m happy with the squad we have. I’m ready to go without the fourth player. If we are out of market, I’m fine, I’m ready.”
Following Anthony Martial’s impressive cameo in Sunday’s win, perhaps Mourinho feels more confident with the wide players in his side already.
Martial, along Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Andreas Pereira, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Juan Mata are all capable of playing in a wide role.
Along with these players, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young will return from injury soon. And both players are capable of playing along the left flank.
Both players will feature for the United U-23’s Monday night.

Mourinho is also in favor of closing the English transfer window prior to the kickoff of the new season. Clubs will vote on September 7 to determine the future length of the summer transfer window.
