According to Sky Sports and several other outlets, the Serbian’s move to Manchester United is almost a done deal. Is Matic exactly what Mourinho needs?

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has stated that he’s waiting for Ed Woodward to complete two new signings before the transfer window shuts and while he will be ok with one new signing, he’s addressed the need for two. With Matic apparently moving to Old Trafford, surely this signing is more important than a winger.

More from Red Devil Armada

The Portuguese tactician previously stated a midfielder and a winger is needed. A move for Perisic appears more unlikely to happen the more the days go by but Nemanja seems keen for a move to the Red Devils despite Chelsea hoping he’d be sold to Italian giants, Juventus.

Matic’s only other competitor for signing for Manchester United was Eric Dier but Tottenham have made it clear that they are unwilling to part with their young English talent. Chelsea however, despite the Lukaku saga, are more ready to sell their holding midfielder as Conte tries to shape his team into his liking.

With the recent arrival of Bakayoko it appears it was the big Premier League winner and not Fabregas who fell down the picking order. Jose Mourinho of course has worked with Nemanja before during his second spell as the Blues manager so it would seem that the smarter move would be for the Chelsea player.

Tottenham have already proven their reluctance of buying or selling any players with their only transfer of note to date being Kyle Walker’s move to Manchester City. The Mancunian team spent big for their right-back and Spurs were not too worried of their Englishman’s move as he had been second choice to Kieran Trippier.

However, they were clearly less keen to sell a key man for their team in Eric Dier and so it seems a move for Matic is far more likely to become a reality in the coming weeks. Manchester United’s pre-season so far has shown a desperate need for a defensive midfielder and the Matic signing will be greeted with cheers of joy from the Red Devils fanbase.
