When asked of who best personifies a human Swiss army knife in soccer there is but one man: Daley Blind.

Blind, who originally came to United as a midfielder, has found himself playing all over the pitch since he arrived at Old Trafford.

From corner duty, to center back, he gets thrown at whatever hole pops up in the team sheet. Lately, however, he seems to have nailed down a primary position at left-back.

Despite his usefulness there remains that sense of dread when one imagines Gareth Bale and his electric pace running at Blind during the UEFA Super Cup just like what happened to Marc Bartra in the 2014 Copa del Ray final.

Blind isn’t a bad left-back. He just doesn’t inspire confidence like United left-backs of old. He can do a job, but for United to take the next step players like the injury-prone Luke Shaw, young Timothy Fosu-Mensah, and even the athletic Axel Tuanzebe have to be willing to step up.
