Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that world class goalkeeper David De Gea will not be moving anywhere, at least for this season.

The Spaniard has been involved in countless rumours and fax machine mishap but apparently it’s all in the past now. Mourinho bravely promised fans that De Gea would not be leaving Manchester United in the foreseeable future at a news conference.

“I can guarantee that he’s not going this season, that I can. And my feeling is that it will be very difficult for him to go. It will be very difficult for him to go because he’s a very honest boy, very straight.” said the Portuguese manager.

“He gets, like, he was contacted for a long time, the club is closed. Then we open because I always have this feeling of when a player has a desire to go I don’t like to stop players to go because in the end you don’t get from them what you expect if they want to move and they don’t move.”.

“So we open it and then they decide to close and I don’t think the feeling for him is very, very good. I see him really happy and focused and working better than ever, so for me 100 per cent he stays with us.”.

More from Red Devil Armada

Jose Mourinho’s words would be welcomed by any sane Manchester United fan. Although De Gea’s loyalty can be questioned, his talent is undeniable and many Red Devils would be happy to see him remain at the club for the next decade.

To be fair to the slick-haired goalkeeper, he never openly stated his desire to leave the club as many footballers do. Either way, if last season was anything to go by then Mourinho hasn’t got too much to worry about should the former Atletico Madrid man decide to move on next season.

Argentinian internation, Sergio Romero put in countless solid displays in last season’s Europa League success and it appears the competition between both goalkeepers has brought out the best from the pair. Manchester United fans will certainly feel they’ve got one of the best ‘back-up’ goalkeepers in club football.

More importantly however, is that there doesn’t seem to be any bad blood between Romero and De Gea, with both players taking on the challenge of competing with each other with dignity and respect. Anyways, it appears that Ed Woodward and Jose have temporarily kept Madrid at arms length and the Morata saga certainly would’ve helped their cases.

Perhaps last season’s performances have convinced De Gea to stay on and continue to see what Jose Mourinho brings to Manchester United. 3 trophies last season might have just been about enough to turn the Spanish internationals head away from Real Madrid, recognising that he may be able to win what he’s been aiming for right at Old Trafford.
