Manchester United’s Mourinho: We never thought about Ronaldo
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that he never seriously considered Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo as a serious transfer target.
The pair have a history together at Real Madrid and now share another club in Manchester United. However, it seems that this time around it’ll only be Mourinho who’s at Old Trafford and Ronaldo will not join him despite huge transfer rumours suggesting the move was on.
After Manchester United’s 5-2 pre-season win over LA Galaxy, Mourinho was quick to deny that a transfer was ever even thought of. Speaking of Ronaldo he said, “We have never thought about it because he is such an important player for his club, of great economic power,”.
Real Madrid of course have a reputation for having cash to splash on Galacticos and they very rarely sell off their star players. It only ever happens Los Blancos decide that these players have declined heavily and are of no more value to the club. Pepe can be used as an example after Zidane moved him on this summer for free.
However, Mourinho also mentioned that a move for Ronaldo was never really on because Manchester United could never find a reason to believe the Portuguese would leave. This, perhaps surprisingly, comes after the transfer circus that happened earlier on when Ronaldo was reportedly, once more, very unhappy at Real Madrid.
It appears Jose didn’t believe the nonsense at all. “We have not been able to find for whatever reason that could have made us think that Ronaldo could leave.” he said. With reports of Inter Milan’s Perisic linked with Manchester United it appears, at least on the surface, that Mourinho wishes to improve the Red Devils flanks.

Of course Jose was straightforward and clear as can be about this apparently unlikely move, adding, “I am not going to get my club to waste time on players who are mission impossible.”. That should be the end of the Ronaldo to Manchester United rumours but it’s unlikely that media outlets will let this story ever die.
