Phil Neville: Mourinho’s Manchester United Will Have To Strengthen
Manchester United have had a relatively quiet transfer window so far with just Lindelof brought in to the club and Phil Neville thinks more players must be added to Mourinho’s arsenal.
Former Manchester United man Phil Neville is aware of how tough it is to compete in England’s elite competition and insists that the Red Devils must invest further to keep up with their rivals. Despite Mourinho only signing one player so far this transfer window, the Class-of-92 graduate is confident in Jose’s ability to bring success to Old Trafford.
“Now, every time I pick up a paper, another player is linked with United but I’m sure Jose will bring success, like he did last season, and ultimately, hopefully, bring the title back to Manchester.” said Neville.
“Now we’re looking to see who Jose signs because, if you look at the top six clubs, I think they will all strengthen. United have to strengthen and it’ll be interesting to see which team strengthens the most.” he continued.
Speaking on the Mourinho’s first season in charge though, Neville had plenty of positives to speak about and is ‘looking forward’ to the next campaign, “I think it was a brilliant season last year and it finished well with the Europa League.”.
“I’m optimistic. United are heading in the right direction and the confidence the manager and his squad got from winning the EFL Cup and Europa League can be taken into the Champions League and the league next year.” said Neville to MUTV.
“It’s going to be a difficult season, as everyone else is spending money and improving. United are going to have to improve as well because they didn’t finish in the top four last season. Even that is a big ask, but I think Jose will want to win the Premier League. That’s the big one. He won’t settle for anything less.”
Neville however, thinks there’s not too much stopping Manchester United from winning the title next season, saying, “If you look at the drawn games at Old Trafford last season and convert maybe 90 per cent of those into wins, then United would have been challenging for the title. If they can do that this year, then I think the title will come back to Manchester.”.

Manchester United fans will be hoping Phil Neville’s suggestions will be heard loud and clear by manager Jose Mourinho. It’s still early in the transfer window but many will be hoping most of the business will be completed before the Red Devils preseason tour. If there are a couple more signings yet to come to Old Trafford, who’s to say the title won’t come to Manchester next season?
