David De Gea rounds off marvelous campaign with few errors

In the 2016/17 season, David De Gea was nothing short of a brick wall for Manchester United. In fact, there were hardly any shots he faced that he could not stop. Predictably, David De Gea secured a starting role in almost every game. Consequently, one can say that Jose Mourinho is more than pleased with De Gea’s performance.

Of the 35 appearances he made, he recorded 16 wins, 14 draws, and 5 losses. Of the many shots he faced, he only conceded one to error. Depressingly, Manchester United have recorded more draws than any Premier League side this year. Most fans are speculative that those draws would be losses without De Gea in goal.

David De Gea has made a whopping 74 saves this year. Unfortunately, his efforts could not be rewarded with the golden glove; a very prestigious honor. However, United supporters all over the globe recognize the Spaniards heroics, and they applaud him. Additionally, commentators and managers everywhere also recognize his form. After all, he has attracted a lot of attention from Real Madrid.

Championships

Despite not being able to secure a Premier League Championship, he has aided his team in securing three other trophies.

The Community Shield, played in 2016, was able to be secured with help from the Spanish goalkeeper. After a thrilling 90 minutes, De Gea and United came out as winners over last years league champions, Leicester City.

About halfway through the year, the EFL cup kicks off, and United were not favorites to take home the silverware. Surprisingly enough, Manchester United went all the way to the championship and bested Southampton 2-1.

Last, but not least, the Europa League. For the first time in Manchester United’s history, the Red Devils prevailed as champions in the competition. De Gea played a minimal role in the Europa League, though. Jose Mourinho saw Sergio Romero as the most fit for the Europa League. Either way, De Gea can still claim himself a champion in three tournaments.

De Gea exit to Spain?

While having a fantastic year, the De Gea acquired heavy interest from Real Madrid. For multiple seasons, David De Gea’s name links itself to the Spanish Giants. Speculation picked up when De Gea put his Manchester home up for sale.

Overall, it all depends on whether Mourinho continues to please the 26 year old phenom. Supporters all over the globe can call this season a success. For the first time since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United are in the Champions League. After all, winning three out of five tournaments, and a spot in the Champions League is nothing to be upset about.
