Pre-Season
Michael Carrick featured in both the pre-season friendly against Wigan and Borussia Dortmund. He only played 45 minutes in both matches and did very well. Carrick played 61 minutes in the Community Shield before being subbed off for Ander Herrera.
Start of the Season
Carrick did not feature for Manchester United until the EFL Cup match against Northampton. He scored the opener in this match that was the eventual winner. He played for the rest of 2016 and did his job of protecting the back four very well. A lot of times Carrick came in during the big games in order to organize the midfield.

Mid-Season
The 35-year old continued to perform under Jose Mourinho and played a large role in a midfield trio of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, and himself. He did not produce anything as far as goals but did provide an assist in the 4-0 win against Reading.
End of the Season
Carrick had a successful end to the season and was a successful part of the Europa League run. This reigned true especially in the second legs against Rostov, Anderlecht, and Celta Vigo. He did not feature in the Europa League final even though he played a large role in getting the Red Devils there.
