Manchester United Need to Keep Anthony Martial Happy
By Aaron Dean
The Mirror is reporting that Tottenham are interested in signing Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial this summer, having missed out on him in 2015.
Talks of a transfer have been fueled by Martial’s lack of playing time in recent matches. Since the start of 2017, the Frenchman has not appeared in three of United’s eight games. He only started half of those games.
United cannot afford to make Martial unhappy. If he leaves in the summer, it would be a monumental loss for them.
At the age of 21, the youngster has already shown signs of greatness. His speed and dribbling ability make him a nightmare for any defender.
Mourinho has said that Martial needs to earn his place in the squad. This does not make any sense. When Martial has played this season he has proven he deserves a starting spot.

Marcus Rashford has been Mourinho’s left winger of choice in 2017. However, stats show the disparity between the two. In 14 premier league games, Martial has three goals and four assists. In contrast, Rashford has three goals and one assist in 20 premier league appearances.
Rashford is a very talented young player. He is just better at center forward, and playing him on the wing over Martial is foolish.
Mourinho decided to start Martial on Saturday versus Watford. This was his first Premier League start since the Liverpool game. The decision paid off.
Martial finished the game with a goal and an assist. He was also awarded man of the match.
In the past Mourinho has been skeptical of young players. However, he needs to trust Martial. Even when he may have an off game or two.
It is normal for young players to go through rough stretches. Martial had a few bad games, especially versus Liverpool. This does not mean he should be axed from the squad.
Benching Martial for long periods of time may come back to bite United in the future. Martial is a key part of their future, and they cannot make him unhappy to the point where he would leave. It not only makes sense for the future, but it will also help United moving forward this season.
