David de Gea Asks Manchester United for a Transfer to Real Madrid
According to Marca, De Gea has asked United for a move to Los Blancos almost two years after his deadline day debacle when Real Madrid was unable to process his papers on time in order to complete the transfer.
The keeper signed for Manchester United back in 2011 and was designated to replace retiring goalkeeper, Edwin van der Sar. He was signed from Atlético Madrid for a then British-record fee of £17.8 million for a goalkeeper.
De Gea has one league title under his belt, as well as being selected the PFA Team of the Year goalie four times in his career. However, his time at United seems to be running thin, and Manchester is doing whatever they can to get him to stay.
Real Madrid has been searching for a new goalkeeper after some inconsistent performances from Keylor Navas. De Gea has said that he won’t make the move to Madrid if there will be competition for the number 1 spot. These speculations have prompted some to question whether there could be a swap of keepers, similar to what could have happened in 2015.
De Gea has already agreed on personal terms with Madrid and is now waiting on a fee to be approved, according to the Metro. No transfer fee has been agreed on, though fans could expect as much as £60 million for the keeper’s move.
The transfer could involve a swap of Madrid players like Morata or James Rodriguez. Manchester United have expressed their interest in receiving a Madrid player in exchange for their star keeper.
Mourinho on the Transfer:
When asked about the transfer, Mourinho responded with an unconvincing answer for reporters:
“I’m not interested in talking about speculation, I don’t think he should be interested in talking about it either,” Mourinho said.
“We’re playing against very important teams, every game is crucial and I don’t see that David is having any problems with this.”
“The end of the season is the time when players can think about what will happen to their careers.”
It seems as if Mourinho is not as confident about De Gea’s future as most fans would like him to be.
