Manchester United got a massive 4 points after defeating Chelsea at home. The Reds were able to remain defensively strong against the Blues and score a goal in either half.

Jose Mourinho was able to knock off his former employers on his third attempt. After a 4-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge and 1-0 defeat in the FA Cup, the Red Devils sought revenge. Ander Herrera was able to man mark Eden Hazard effectively and the Belgian was very quiet on the day.

In the first half, Manchester United bossed the game and only allowed the league leaders to take one shot. It was a first half where Diego Costa and Manchester United’s center backs battling away. In the 7th minute, Ander Herrera slotted Rashford in behind who struck it past Asmir Begovic.

The rest of the half Eden Hazard and Diego Costa were stalled by Manchester United’s tight marking. The attacking duo barely got a touch of the ball and was not able to get anything near David De Dea’s goal.

In the second half, United doubled their lead after Ander Herrera’s strike deflected past Begovic. Jose Mourinho brought off Jesse Lingard and brought in Michael Carrick to hold on to the lead. This was in response to the substitution of Cesc Fabregas.

The game became very open after United’s second goal. Chelsea began to throw numbers forward and put pressure Red’s defense. The Red Devils’ defense was stout for all 90 minutes and kept a vital clean sheet.

Chelsea now only have a 4 point lead at the top of the table and the title race has now become very interesting. Manchester United sit in 5th, 4 point behind Manchester City with a game in hand. Liverpool sits in 3rd, 6 points ahead of United, but the Jose Mourinho’s men have 2 games in hand.
