Number 3. Angel di Maria
At the time of the transfer, Manchester United broke the record for the highest fee by a British club. In late August of 2014, United signed Di Maria for £59.7 million from Real Madrid, a record which they would then break a few summers later.
After starting off his season strong, and even winning the club’s Player of the Month and Goal of the Month awards for September, Di Maria quickly fell off after a hamstring injury in October. He made a return in January, and wasn’t able to pick up his old form.
After finishing his season with disappointing form, Di Maria was said to be the worst signings of the season by the media. After Di Maria didn’t board the plane to Manchester United’s preseason tour in America, it was said he had a medical in Paris. Four days later he was transferred to Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of £44 million.
