Number 8. Mark Bosnich

Bosnich made his return to Manchester on a free transfer from Aston Villa, and was targeted as the replacement for Peter Schmeichel. An up and down season led to some disastrous goalkeeper problems for the Reds, as Bosnich would only play 21 league games that season.

At the end of the season, United signed French goal keeper Fabien Barthez, and Bosnich saw himself fall to the number three spot. He declined a loan offer, but after receiving no first team games that season, was transferred to Chelsea during the January transfer window.

Sir Alex Ferguson also claimed in his autobiography that Bosnich was a “terrible professional”, despite having signed him twice.
