The search for a new superstar at Manchester United has been going on ever since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, for a then record £80 million to Real Madrid.

Players have been brought in and marketed as “the next Ronaldo” for years now, but none of them have lived up to their title.

These players, which include the likes of Antonio Valencia and Memphis Depay most recently, have faded out of conversation, as some transferred away, whilst others didn’t do much to begin with.

Antoine Griezmann

Manchester United have targeted Antoine Griezmann as a potential summer signing. The Frenchman has shown great potential at his current club, Atletico Madrid. With 23 goals in 43 appearances, it is no wonder why so many clubs are chasing his signature.

A well-developed player like Griezmann would be the best fit for this role. The striker is also a perfect replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is only on contract for one year.

Gonçalo Guedes

If Manchester is looking for a younger, cheaper option, Gonçalo Guedes is the way to go. The 20-year-old winger is Portuguese, like his would-be predecessor before him. Guedes currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain, and came out of the Benfica system.

Signing on Guedes would definitely get them a future star, and someone to build on. The youngster scored five goals in his 39 appearances at Benfica, and would certainly score more in a top-level club like Manchester United.

Paulo Dybala

Dybala, 23, is one of the greatest upcoming talents in the world of football. He has scored an impressive 24 goals in 50 games with Juventus, despite splitting games with Gonzalo Higuain. Not only could he be the next Ronaldo, but potentially the next star.

A consistent goal scorer is exactly what the Red Devils need, and that’s what they’ll get in Dybala. They may have to break the bank to get him, but it will be well worth it in time.
