3. Wayne Rooney

The skipper has been through all the highs and lows this season, from scoring at will to not scoring in a month. Looking at the season as a whole, however, Rooney scored eight goals and provided six assists in 27 appearances in the League. His campaign was hindered a bit by a nagging injury in February and March, just after he’d gone on a run of seven goals and three assists in ten games.

During that injured spell, Marcus Rashford entered the fore and solidified his place as top striking option in the squad. Forced with finding a place to start his captain upon returning to health, the manager found the perfect fit for the 30-year-old. Though most of his goal-scoring damage came in the forward position, he looks destined to be a midfielder for the remainder of his career.

On occasion he can still deliver a splendid strike, but he contributes more when his involvement is deeper in the team. As was the case in the Bournemouth match, Rooney can pick out a long ball to switch the attack and generate chances. All signs indicate that the long time Red Devil should end his Manchester United career in such capacity, regardless of who the next manager is.
