Manchester United ran out comfortable 3-1 winners over Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Tuesday to bring a disappointing Premier League campaign to an end.

Goals from Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford and Ashley Young were enough to secure the victory, while Chris Smalling’s late own goal prevented David De Gea from wining the Golden Glove award.

The first 40 minutes of the game were dull and uneventful. On the stroke of half-time, though, Anthony Martial conjured up a bit of magic and created the chance from which Rooney scored.

In the second period, Rashford slammed home following good work from Rooney and Antonio Valencia. United’s captain then lifted a smart ball over the Bournemouth defence, and Young sealed the win.

However, as manager Louis van Gaal took to the pitch to deliver his end-of-season speech to the crowd, audible boos let the Dutchman know how disappointed the fans have been with this campaign.

Fifth in the Premier League, fewest goals scored in 26 years, knocked out of two European competitions – and yet Van Gaal maintained in his post-match interview that “expectations are too high” for a club in “transition.”

Even with an FA Cup win this weekend, it’s been a dreadful season.

Here are three talking points from United’s win over Bournemouth…
