5. Paddy McNair, Defender

The Northern Irishman played brilliantly when he first broke into the United first team at the start of last season.

His backwards diving header against West Ham United preserved a win after Wayne Rooney was red-carded, and he did a fine job of keeping Romelu Lukaku quiet in a win over Everton.

Since then, however, McNair has been largely unconvincing whenever he has featured for United. He has made just eight appearances in the Premier League this season, six of which came from the substitutes’ bench.

McNair has watched Michael Carrick and Timothy Fosu-Mensah fill in at centre-back when United were without first-choice options in that position – a sure sign that he has fallen out of favour.

The 20-year-old starred for Northern Ireland in a friendly against Wales recently and should earn a good move to a new club, perhaps in the Championship.
