2. Marcus Rashford, Striker

Only a month ago, the 18-year-old might not have featured at all in this list of United’s top five most promising academy players. However, that only highlights how swift and remarkable his rise to prominence has been.

It’s not just that Rashford has scored five goals in his first eight games at senior level, three of which came against Arsenal and Manchester City. It’s that he has such incredible speed and acceleration that, even when he’s not playing well, he can trouble any defender on any given day.

Martin Demichelis is approaching the end of his career, but the way Rashford glided past him so effortlessly means it will not be a surprise if the Argentine’s reckless 53-minute cameo in the Manchester derby was his last appearance in a City shirt.

If Rashford can develop a real killer instinct in front of goal, there’s no reason why he can’t go on to enjoy a long career at United. His pace is frightening, and the fact that he is even quicker than Anthony Martial says it all.
