Daley Blind impressed with Manchester United’s confidence in win over Derby County in FA Cup

Manchester United produced a class display to beat Derby County 3-1 in the FA Cup on the weekend and defender Daley Blind was delighted with the way they played.

The Red Devils had been under huge pressure this week with the media slamming Louis van Gaal for the sides recent displays. However, the win at Pride Park was a joy to watch and the fans were treated to three goals in the away end.

United came to do business and they got it done with tremendous goals from Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Blind. And with striker Anthony Martial standing out along with the two youngsters Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Guillermo Varela, it was a good night for the club.

And Blind, who played in central defence also had a good game with his goal helping United seal the win. The 25 year-old was always comfortable on the ball and helped United keep their momentum in the middle of the park when passing the ball around.

And speaking on his goal, which helped United restore their lead in the second half, the Dutch international said he just made a strikers run and the ball was perfect for him.

"“I passed the ball to Juan and then it opened up,” Daley said, as reported by manutd.com. “I saw nobody there and I started thinking like a striker, so I thought maybe I should go to the first post. I made a choice and then the ball was there. It was a perfect ball from Jesse, I didn’t need to take a touch and then it was a goal!”Asked how it felt to celebrate his finish in front of the 5,472 United fans in the away end, Blind continued: “It was a great feeling and you could see how many fans there were again, they are everywhere and always are. I compliment them and this victory is also for them of course.”"

United looked good and despite a setback in the first half when George Thorne eqaulised, it was a comfortable win.

Van Gaal made a few changes to the side but they worked with United looking threatening in every aspect. Both Martial and Rooney looked in good mood while Juan Mata kept trying to create magic in the number 10 role – after being on the bench recently.

And the win now means United will be in the draw on Monday, something Blind was delighted with after seeing the side create plenty of chances, while the defence helped David De Gea have a nice evening.

"He continued: “They are a physical team and I think we played very well,” he told MUTV. “We played quicker than the games before, we created a lot of chances and we scored two goals. We could have finished more but I think, in the end, it was a good performance.“We were in control and then in one moment it slipped away [when Derby equalised]. It was just one chance and they had some shots from outside of the box. But in these kinds of games, a cup game, anything can happen and of course you are not happy when you go into the dressing room at 1-1. But we can out very strongly and showed that we wanted it more.”"

United will now be looking to kick on and face Stoke City in the week at Old Trafford. That will be a tough fixture and they must now keep winning with the Champions League the main objective added Blind.

"“Of course a win is always a boost but you have to take it game by game and step by step. There is an important game on Tuesday coming up. We have to move on from this and keep the confidence up,” Blind added."
