Manchester United: Which full-backs should van Gaal target in January?
Ricardo Rodriguez
Wolfsburg
One of the most exciting young defenders in Europe right now, Ricardo Rodriguez should most definitely be a target for Manchester United.
The Swiss interntional is the European version of Luke Shaw and with manager van Gaal bemoaning Manchester United’s lack of like-for-like replacements for the young Englishman after his injury, Rodriguez would provide exactly that.
He’s quick, strong, aggressive and has a sweet left foot. He impressed against Manchester United at Old Trafford and has regularly been linked with a move to the Premier League, although Bayern Munich are also said to be keen with David Alaba’s performances in central defence and midfield just as impressive.
While it would no doubt cost a huge amount of money to bring him to the club, it would allow Marcos Rojo to be played in his preferred central defensive position on a regular basis. Once Luke Shaw returned to fitness, the boss would also have the option of playing both men on the left flank with one on the wing if he wanted too.
A highly unlikely transfer to happen, especially in January, but if even a hint of availability comes to light then the Reds should be all over it.
