Manchester United started their pre season campaign with a comfortable 1-0 victory over Club America. The Red Devils opened the scoring in the fifth minute after Morgan Schneiderlin headed home, which eventually won the match. Louis Van Gaal fielded two different sides in each half and handed debuts to all four of his new summer signings, while Sam Johnstone, Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira also made appearances.
Sam Johnstone (8/10)
Came off the line quickly to make some important clearences which could have led to Club America goals. The young keeper was also good on ball distribution and was hardly tested to make any saves.
Matteo Darmian (7/10)

The Italian enjoyed a good Manchester United debut. He was at the right place to intercept the ball and break the opposition’s attacks while going forward he was not too adventurous but a very promising debut for him.
Phil Jones (7/10)
Jones was solid at the back. No mistakes and tackled well in every situation when Club America was attacking. Overall a very good half for the England international and staking his claim to be first choice when the season begins.
Daley Blind (5/10)
The weakest link in the team during the first half. He was outrun many times by the forwards and his positioning was also very poor. He was lucky not to have conceded a penalty by making a reckless challenge in the box but must be remembered he was playing in one of his less frequent positions of central defence.
Luke Shaw (7/10)
Shaw was a continuous menace on the left flank. He made a number of surging run while going forward and linked up well with Ashley Young. The young defender was unlucky not to grab an assist as he created a number of good chances for his team-mates.
Michael Carrick (6/10)
A rusty performance by Carrick as he returned after a long injury lay-off since April. He slotted in well with Schneiderlin and shielded the back four when they were defending in tight situations although he did lose the ball on occasion which led to a few chances for Club America.
Morgan Schneiderlin (9/10)
The former Saints midfielder delivered a fantastic performance on his Manchester United debut. His distribution was impressive. He also bailed out Manchester United number of times with his crunching tackles and interception. He grabbed a good goal after he headed the ball from Mata’s cross.
Ashley Young (6/10)
The winger was quiet throughout the game. He was hardly effective in the final third apart from a cross for Juan Mata which saw the Spaniard have a shot saved. He linked up well with Shaw but could have done well in creating more chances for his team-mates.
Memphis Depay (7/10)
The Dutch youngster had a decent performance on his debut for Manchester United. His first touch was impressive and created good chances for Wayne Rooney. He also did well with his passing in tight situations while he showed confidence despite the circumstance. Certainly more to come from this man.
Juan Mata (7/10)
The Spaniard was played on the right flank like last season and linked up well with Darmian. Provided a very good assist for the goal with a right-foot cross from a rebounded corner while he himself came close to scoring when he was laid a perfect ball to launch an attempt on the goal. Mata was a constant threat as he created numerous chances and will be more than happy with his first pre-season performance.
Wayne Rooney (6/10)

A very quiet game for the captain. He pressed well but was frequently caught offside when he had a clear cut chance. Dropped deep for the ball and linked up well Depay but will only improve as the pre-season goes on.
Substitutes
Anders Lindegaard (7/10)
He did well when called upon, otherwise he had nothing to do .He was beaten once but the ball hit the woodwork so Manchester United survived a scare but much like Johnstone didn’t really have a chance to show his qualities.
Paddy McNair (7/10)
The teenager was very effective on the right flank. Constantly made surging runs and supported Jesse Lingard. Missed a good chance to double the lead in the late moments of the game but overall a good showing.
Chris Smalling (6/10)
The England international was losing possession in crucial positions and could have cost the team when he lost the ball which eventually lead to an effort on the goal which hit the woodwork. Not the greatest performance.
Jonny Evans (6/10)
Evans endured one more poor game as his positioning was awful and was outrun numerous times by the forwards. His distribution was the only aspect in the game that was positive and that move to Everton should be pushed through as soon as possible.
Tyler Blackett (6/10)
The United youth product was impressive with his ball distribution along the pitch. Helped Andreas Pereira well on the left flank but was disappointing while defending, proving once and for all that he is not a left back.
Bastian Schweinsteiger (7/10)
An impressive debut for the German captain. He dictated the play in the midfield and was also doing well while shielding the defence. He played some delicious passes to Januzaj and Pereira while going forward and showed that he is still gifted despite his much talked about age.
Ander Herrera (6/10)
A quiet game for the Spaniard. He was playing deep with Schweinsteiger and pulling strings for the young attack. His header was not met by any of his team-mates which could have increased United’s lead and when called upon did his job perfectly but was not as impressive as he usually is .
Jesse Lingard (7/10)
Lingard was a constant menace on the right hand side. He always tried to create chances and came close to assisting a goal for Pereira but the Brazilian was just off the mark. A real livewire display as the academy prospect looks to break into the first-team.
Adnan Januzaj (7/10)
The Belgian enjoyed the game in his favoured number 10 role. After a shaky start he started to influence the game in a positive way. He came close to scoring earlier in the second half and overall had an impressive display as he looked more stocky and ready for robust challenges that would come his way.
Andreas Pereira (9/10)
The most sparkling performance in the second half. The Brazilian used his skills and tricks perfectly to create chances for his team-mates and also came close to scoring when his shot brushed pass the face of the goal. A terrific performance from a player who will be hopeful of becoming a permanent fixture in the first-team next season.
James Wilson (6/10)
A disapppointing outing for the teenager. He started brightly but faded as the game went on.Made some clever runs but couldn’t capitalize when he got the ball although he will only get better as the season goes on.
