Bryan Robson Backs Van Gaal To Win Silverware At United
After steering Manchester United back into top four this season, Louis Van Gaal’s men can make the step up next season by winning a trophy in the 2015/2016 season reveals Bryan Robson.
Robson, who is a former United man and played for the club a number of years during their famous rise, has been an admirer of the Dutch coach’s methods and has been impressed by the way they’ve played this season.

And while talking to The Mirror, the legendary midfielder said the Red Devils should at least try to win one domestic trophy and challenge Chelsea for title next year. Van Gaal, 63, had a mixed year which included some good performances and some very bad. But Robson believes Van Gaal is the perfect man to bring glory back to Old Trafford.
"“Having watched Louis van Gaal at work this season I am absolutely convinced he is the right man to take United forward. He is very focused on what he wants and how he wants to go about it. He has given the players a very clear direction that he expects them to follow.”"
Robson believes Van Gaal and his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson have a lot of similarities. He suggested Van Gaal has the same authority in the dressing room as Sir Alex had – with Robson one of the most successful under the Scotsmen who was in charge over 20 years.
"“I can see the similarities with Alex Ferguson – the same strong leadership and way of going about things. You always knew where you stood with the boss [Ferguson]. If anybody stepped out of line he would be down on him, get him out of the team and even move him on.”"
Robson was impressed with United’s under Van Gaal even though the Reds were only able to gain a fourth place in the league table. Despite the numerous injuries United suffered, he feels Van Gaal achieved his target of top four comfortably. He also stated that apart from a dip in form from Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria, all other signings have fared well in their debut campaign.
"“I think finishing in the top four makes it a decent first season for Van Gaal. He came in off the back of the World Cup and no matter how often you see players on TV, you don’t know them until you work with them.“He was unlucky with so many injuries and the form of [summer signings] Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria. Falcao was worth a punt and Di Maria had a blistering start. The break-in at his home must have affected him. If he stays, he could start afresh next season. The other signings have done okay.”"
United are expected to sign multiple number of players this summer in order to challenge for silverware and the former United captain added that at least one domestic cup should be the minimum target for Van Gaal if he splashes the cash like many fans expect him to.
"“United have to compete for the league title and, at the very least, win a domestic cup competition next season. They may not be quite ready to win the title, but they have to be in the mix – Van Gaal will want nothing less.“The first job, though, is to get through the qualifying stage of the Champions League and that’s not a given. There will be some top clubs in the draw with United, so it could be really tough.”"
There have been numerous reports both in England and Spain which has created a doubt about the future of United’s goalkeeper David De Gea. Robson has urged his former club to snap Petr Cech from Chelsea if De Gea is leaving. He also believes it is the right time for some youngsters to shine for the first team.
"“It’s important to bring in players as soon as possible. If De Gea has to be replaced,Cech would be ideal – he could do for the club what Edwin van der Sar did.”“Ideally, United will be able to strengthen the back, midfield and attack. And also, hopefully, one or two of the kids will make their mark, as the likes of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes did.”"
Robson is gearing up for the match against Bayern Munich All Stars which will take place at Old Trafford on 14th June to raise money for charity.
