The countdown starts with a goal scored just last month. Manchester United played host to Hull City at Old Trafford and won 3-0, in a game that Louis Van Gaal described as the “best performance of the season”.

Robin van Persie had come under fire for his recent form and it was later revealed that Van Gaal would have dropped the Dutch striker from the side in place of youngster James Wilson, but the young striker fell ill on the day of the game.

This allowed van Persie another chance and he hasn’t looked back since. Substitute Ander Herrera picked up the ball in Hull’s half and played a nice through ball to the Dutch striker who needed no help. The ex-Arsenal man took a touch which took him past the defender before rocketing a left-footed shot into the top corner past Alan McGregor. van Persie’s celebration was one of arrogance but the fans all breathed a sigh of relief as it seemed that Robin van Persie was finally back to his old ways.
