After a dismal season came to a head following a defeat to Everton, David Moyes was sacked with four games to go. We’ll touch on that later though.

Manchester United made the incredibly popular decision to appoint the legendary Ryan Giggs as caretaker manager for the remainder of the season with Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville as his assistants.

Giggs continued with the traditions of the club, moving the press conferences back to the old 9am slot that Sir Alex Ferguson used to have while also promoting Tom Lawrence and James Wilson to the first team for his games in charge. Wilson scored twice on his debut against Hull and Giggs lost just once in his four games, at home to Sunderland.

The Welsh wing-wizard went on to retire at the end of the season and is now assistant to current manager Louis Van Gaal, while Paul Scholes and Phil Neville left the club to pursue punditry. Nicky Butt went back to his old role as coach for the U21’s.
