Manchester United got the dream draw in the Champions League Last 16 round when they drew Greek champions Olympiakos. With Moyes in charge though, nothing was easy. The Reds were humbled in Athens and dominated by Michel’s side and comfortably beaten 2-0 in the first leg, leaving them all to do at Old Trafford.
For once, they turned up. A stunning Robin van Persie hat-trick and some fantastic saves by David De Gea meant Manchester United became the first side in Champions League history to overturn a two-goal deficit from the first leg in a Champions League knockout-tie and it was the first time under David Moyes that the club won a game by three goals without conceding.
A rare positive moment at Old Trafford under David Moyes, it led to a starry-eyed quarter-final clash with Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich where United eventually crashed out despite taking the lead in both the home and away legs.
