Manchester United have no interest in letting Hannibal Mejbri leave on a permanent basis despite interest from several clubs, according to Manchester Evening News.

The Tunisian international, who featured in the 2023 Qatar World Cup for his country’s group stage matches last season, spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Championship club Birmingham City.

He featured in United U21’s 4-0 win against Chester on Monday evening, as he looks to maintain his fitness before the new season kicks off.

Mejbri, 20, has been highly touted for a few seasons, and this upcoming season could well be a breakthrough campaign into Erik Ten Hag’s side. He impressed in the Red Devils’ pre-season tour of United States and could be set to stay despite reports earlier in the summer about a possible permanent departure.

Luton Town, AS Monaco, Feyenoord, Rennes & Borussia Dortmund have all reportedly been interested in the young star. Hannibal could still leave the club on loan, but it seems he is just as likely to stay with United this season. With possible departures for Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny Van De Beek all being discussed, it may well make sense for United to keep depth in the midfield department.

With a particular interest in the possible departure of Van de Beek amidst ongoing talks with Real Sociedad, Hannibal could find himself in rotation just behind regulars Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount and backup Christian Eriksen in the pecking order. United boss Ten Hag is keen on playing 2 No8’s in his system, so the chances for Hannibal could become plentiful in a packed schedule. Alternatively, a loan would also make sense. Playing regularly in the Premier League or in one of Europe’s top leagues would serve him well for next season.
