Manchester United were linked with a long list of players in the summer and ultimately ended up with an impressive list of signings, that includes names like Casemiro, Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen. After years, it looks like the club have got their recruitment right and that might be a good sign for things to come in the Erik ten Hag era at Old Trafford.

One player that Manchester United were believed to have been interested in, but did not manage to sign, is Antoine Griezmann, who is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid from Barcelona.

Griezmann has been struggling for playing time at Atletico Madrid at the moment though and is only being brought in as a second half substitute, as there is believed to be some complex clause in the loan deal where Diego Simeone’s side will have to shell out a significant fee for the Frenchman if he plays a certain amount of time.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Griezmann has scored 3 goals in 7 appearances for Atletico Madrid this season, while playing 192 minutes of football in total.

Griezmann has not publicly made any statements regarding his current situation but as reported by The Athletic (via Express), his patience is wearing thin and a permanent exit in January could resolve the situation.

Even if Griezmann ends up becoming available in the January transfer window though, it feels unlikely that Manchester United would still be interested with Marcus Rashford in good form and Antony also signed in the summer.

The situation of Cristiano Ronaldo could make things interesting though. The Portuguese superstar has been reduced to an impact substitute at the moment, and even when he has played, he has not looked in form. Thus, it is very possible that he could look to leave in January and in that scenario, a move for Griezmann would make more sense for the Red Devils than it does now.
