Manchester United pulled off some big signings this summer in the form of Lisandro Martinez, Antony, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. But the player that they were most heavily linked with was Frenkie de Jong, and unfortunately for the Red Devils, the Dutchman did decide to stay on at Camp Nou.

That is one of the major reasons why Manchester United went after Casemiro, who most people would have been expecting to remain at Real Madrid, where he had won five Champions League titles.

Now, just because Manchester United failed to sign De Jong this summer does not mean that their interest in the player is completely over. But at the moment, it looks like Moises Caicedo of Brighton & Hove Albion is more likely to make the switch to Old Trafford than him.

Caicedo has taken the Premier League by storm with some of his recent appearances and seems to have caught the interest of clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, journalist Dean Jones said about the situation:

"“Frenkie De Jong, obviously, was the player we thought would be coming in initially, but it seems firmly out of sight at the moment.“He looks so happy at Barcelona; things are going well for him there. So, at this point, maybe you can say Caicedo’s at least more likely than Frenkie De Jong.”"

Could Manchester United make a move for the Brighton & Hove Albion player in the future?

Interestingly, this is not the first time that Manchester United are being linked with Caicedo. In fact, they were believed to have had an eye on him back when he was with Independiente in Ecuador but he ended up with The Seagulls instead.

That move has worked out for him quite as well, as now, Caicedo is viewed as an emerging star in the Premier League. He might not have even gotten enough chances at Manchester United to do that.

The player has made no secret of his affection for Manchester United in the past though and it remains to be seen if a move to Old Trafford ends up happening one day or not.
