Manchester United enjoyed a terrific summer transfer window and now look in a good position to challenge for a top four finish. That was not looking like the case after the first two matchdays, as the Red Devils had lost both in convincing fashion and were sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table at that point of time.

Thus, it is safe to say that things are looking up for Manchester United. Summer signings like Lisandro Martinez and Antony, both of whom were brought in from Ajax, are already making a difference.

But it looks like Erik ten Hag had had his eyes on another of his former players from Ajax but ultimately, the move was blocked by the Dutch giants.

As reported by CaughtOffside, according to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive CaughtOffside column, there was some contact between Ten Hag and Brian Brobbey, but it never ended up developing into concrete negotiations as Ajax blocked the player’s exit.

Ajax did not want Manchester United target to leave this summer

Brobbey is a player who Ten Hag will know well from their time together at Ajax. In fact, he had been a standout in both the Dutch club and the Netherlands national team’s youth levels.

The potential with Brobbey is clear for all to see. He had a failed move to RB Leipzig. And after it did not work out for him in Germany, he is back at Ajax once again and back amongst the goals as well.

Brobbey is just 20 years of age and thus, while he would not be expected to be a starter for a club like Manchester United, he could have been a brilliant long-term signing for the Red Devils.

It is understandable that Ajax did not want to let another key player leave after seeing so many others go this summer.
