Manchester United suffered a terrible start to their 2022/23 Premier League campaign as they were handed a 2-1 defeat at home at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion. One also has to accept the fact that the Red Devils were nowhere near good enough on the day and the Seagulls deserved all three points based on their performance, which was very impressive considering they have lost key players this summer.
Manchester United will be expected to make further additions moving forward to boost Erik ten Hag’s squad and the result against Brighton & Hove Albion showed that they need them quickly.
One of the areas that they could with reinforcements in is striker. Edinson Cavani left in the summer while Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is up in the air. But not many people would have expected them to go out and make a transfer bid for Marko Arnautovic, despite their lack of options up front at the moment.
As reported by The Telegraph, Manchester United have had an initial offer of €8.5 million rejected by Bologna for Arnautovic but they are confident that they can sign the striker with an improved bid.
Manchester United make shock bid for former West Ham United striker
On one hand, Arnautovic is someone who could be a contributor to this team. He has plenty of experience in the Premier League, was solid during his time at West Ham United and is coming off of a very good campaign with Bologna in Serie A.
He has also worked with Ten Hag in the past, during their time together at FC Twente in the Netherlands.
But at the same time though, Arnautovic is 33 years of age, has never really been prolific in front of goal and it is hard to see how he can be the solution to the glaring problems that Manchester United have right now.
