Fabrizio Romano drops major Manchester United transfer update
There is a lot of optimism surrounding Manchester United after they have made a stunning start to pre-season under the management of Erik ten Hag. Not only are the Red Devils winning games but they are playing some very good football as well, and the fans will be hoping that this is just the sign of things to come with the Dutchman in the Old Trafford hot seat.
Of course, it is just pre-season but still, there are a lot of positive signs at the moment. The club have also made a few additions to their squad, by signing Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia.
At the same time though, they have continue strengthening the squad and one position that needs immediate reinforcements is Manchester United’s midfield. It was already considered to be a weakness for the Red Devils and on top of that, the likes of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata have left the club this summer.
While there have been rumours linking Manchester United with a variety of midfielders recently, it looks like their primary target remains Frenkie de Jong. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Fabrizio Romano said:
"“At the moment, it is not something close for Parades or Sangare. There are a lot of links, but they are not players, as of now, who are close to joining Manchester United.“I think from what I am told that they’re still focused on trying to change the Frenkie de Jong situation, and if not, they will go for that kind of midfielder.”"
Fabrizio provides Manchester United transfer update as they chase midfielder
De Jong as appeared to Manchester United’s top target this summer for a while but they have not managed to get a deal over the line, despite Barcelona appearing to be open to a deal.
The situation surrounding De Jong is confusing right now. Some rumours have suggested that he is not keen on joining Manchester United while others have suggested that the problem is surrounding unpaid wages.
It remains to be seen how things turn out over the coming days and weeks. Manchester United cannot afford to let this transfer saga drag on for too long though, as midfield is a position where they need to make additions this summer.
