Manchester United’s midfield is not the strongest at this point of time. It has been viewed as an area of weakness for a while already and many questioned why the club did not bring in reinforcements there last summer. On top of that, the likes of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata have departed Old Trafford this summer at the end of their respective contracts.

Thus, Erik ten Hag is expected to be looking to soar up his options in the middle of the park. The club have already been linked with FC Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong for a while.

Now though, it looks like they have a Paris Saint-Germain player in their sights as well, although he could be more of a replacement for Matic in defensive midfield. The man in question is Argentine international Leandro Paredes.

As tweeted out by Angelo Mangiante, Manchester United are interested in Paredes and talks are ongoing.

Manchester United are interested in PSG midfielder

Paredes is a regular fixture in the Argentina national team picture and he has been with PSG since early 2019.

He is not a regular fixture in the PSG first-team though. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Paredes made just 22 appearances for the French champions last season.

While someone like Paredes would not be a blockbuster signing, he is someone who could definitely bring a lot to the table for Manchester United, who are in need of defensive midfielders at this point of time.

Paredes has some top level experience, having played for PSG as well as clubs like AS Roma and Boca Juniors. He is also a Copa America winner with Argentina. And at the moment, Manchester United need winners, having not lifted a single piece of silverware in five seasons.

On top of everything else, Paredes is also just 28 years of age and in the middle of his prime. Thus, while the Argentine might not be a game-changing signing, he could certainly be a very solid addition to this Manchester United side.
