One of the most interesting storylines of the summer transfer window has been the Manchester United future of Cristiano Ronaldo. When the club appointed Erik ten Hag as manager, there were questions about whether he would fit into the Dutchman’s plans. And while it does seem like that won’t be an issue, he is still being linked with clubs like Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

The fact of the matter is that Manchester United have been nowhere near their best for years now, and have not won a single trophy over the past five seasons. They also failed to qualify for the Champions League and will be in the Europa League in the upcoming campaign. On top of everything else, they are yet to make a signing this summer.

All things considered, it is not hard to see why Ronaldo might potentially look to leave the club if the rumours are indeed true.

Bruno Fernandes does not seem to be worried that that will be the case though and hopes to meet his Portuguese national teammate in pre-season. As reported by talkSPORT, the Manchester United midfielder said while speaking to Record:

"“I spoke to him a few weeks ago.“We’re both on vacation, no one bothers friends on vacation.“I hope to meet him on [July 4] to train there at Manchester United, I’m not expecting more than that.“There is nothing more than that, but each one takes care of their future.“I don’t believe that the club is willing to lose a player of the value of Cristiano.”"

Ronaldo had a decent individual campaign last time around but as a team, Manchester United appeared to take a step back since his arrival. Thus, there are big question marks over whether he should be starting for the Red Devils or not.

It must also be pointed out that Ronaldo is 37 years of age now and is not getting any better with time, although he is still a very good goalscorer.

Manchester United do not have a great striker at the club other than him though. In fact, Edinson Cavani is also leaving. As a result, it is important for the Red Devils to hold onto Ronaldo and him leaving would be a massive blow for them, unless they are able to sign a consistent goalscorer as a replacement.
