Manchester United’s squad is set to undergo a major overhaul this summer with Erik ten Hag arriving as the new manager of the Red Devils. Most of the recent rumours have surrounded potential incomings, but at the same time, there are a number of players who will be heading in the opposite direction as well.

One such player is Jesse Lingard. The English international was absolutely fantastic during his half-a-season loan spell at West Ham United and as a result, there were hopes that he would get the chance to impress for Manchester United last season.

That did not happen. Despite Manchester United’s struggles throughout the course of the campaign, Lingard barely featured and with his contract running out this summer, he is on his way out of the club.

Lingard’s current deal with Manchester United runs out at the end of the month and as reported by The Athletic, West Ham United have opened talks to sign him on a free transfer. Negotiations are only in their early stages, and no offer has yet been made.

It is not hard to see why Lingard might be interested in a move to the Hammers. It was at West Ham United, under the management of David Moyes, that he played the best football of his career.

Still just 29 years of age, Lingard should have plenty of football left in the tank and as a result, West Ham United might be a great place for him to go to.

The Hammers have been a team on the rise for a while now and have been challenging for top six spots. They barely finished behind Manchester United in the 2021/22 season.

It remains to be seen if Lingard does end up at West Ham United or not. There is not expected to be any lack of interest in his signature during free agency.
