Manchester United need a bit of everything this summer to make sure that they can give Erik ten Hag the best chance of succeeding at Old Trafford. The Dutch manager will have his work cut out for him, as this is a team that has not won a single piece of silverware in five seasons now and have been nowhere near their best since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

Thus, they need to make major signings this summer and are being linked with the likes of Frenkie de Jong, whose development has appeared to stall at Barcelona and as a result, a reunion with Ten Hag might be attractive.

At the same time though, the club must have an eye out on free agents. With the magnitude of the rebuild required at the club, it will be important to make smart signings as well as statement ones.

And it looks like the club are doing exactly that. As reported by The Athletic, Manchester United have made an offer to sign Christian Eriksen.

After his health scare at UEFA EURO 2020, Eriksen returned to football earlier this year and signed a short-term deal with Brentford till the end of the season.

During his time at the club though, he was able to show what he was still capable of and as a result, the interest in his signature is pretty high now, especially since he will be available as a free agent in the summer.

Someone like Eriksen could prove to be an excellent signing for Manchester United. He was excellent in the second half of the season for Brentford and has impressed for the Denmark national team as well. Now, it remains to be seen if the Red Devils are able to sign the former Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan star on a free transfer.
