Manchester United have been linked with a number of players in recent times as it is pretty clear that they need a rebuild this summer. Five seasons without a trophy is not something that a club of this size should be going through. Now, it is up to Erik ten Hag to succeed where the likes of Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal, David Moyes, Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have failed in the past, and take the Red Devils back to the top of English football.

Most of the recent rumours have surrounded the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Jurrien Timber, Pau Torres and others. But it looks like there is a player closer to home that Manchester United might have their eyes on as well.

Ruben Neves is someone that Manchester United have been linked with for a long time and even tried to sign in the past. Now, it looks like they are ready to try again.

As reported by The Transfer Exchange Show (via Caught Offside), Manchester United are now readying a £42 million deal for Neves, having had a £35 million offer turned down in January.

Manchester United are still looking to sign the Premier League midfielder

Neves has been one of the best players in the Premier League, not in one of the traditional Big Six, for a long time now.

While still 25 years of age, he has a lot of experience in English football as well, having joined Wolves in the summer of 2017.

For a while, it has felt like he is ready for a big move, and he has been linked with a number of top clubs as well, without a move away from Wolves ever materialising. Now, it remains to be seen if it will happen this time around.

Manchester United do need a midfield rebuild and someone like Neves could prove to be a great addition.
