Manchester United will need to make some serious signings this summer if they are to get Erik ten Hag’s time as the manager of the club to a successful start. At the end of the day, while this squad has a lot of individual talent, they have finished five straight seasons without a single piece of silverware. Thus, change is needed at Old Trafford urgently.

On the other hand, Liverpool find themselves in an interesting situation as well. Till the last weeks of the season, they were in the running for a Quadruple, but ended up losing out on the Premier League and the Champions League ultimately. On top of that, Sadio Mane looks to be headed out of the club this summer.

And it looks like two of the biggest clubs in England could face off against each other in the summer transfer window.

As reported by the Independent, Manchester United are prepared to go toe to toe with Liverpool for Darwin Nunez. While the player is believed to have favoured Jurgen Klopp’s side up to now, it looks like his camp are ready to listen to the Red Devils, as they start a new era under Ten Hag.

Nunez has enjoyed a brilliant season for Benfica this time around. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 34 goals and provided 4 assists in 41 appearances for the Portuguese side.

And not only was he successful in domestic competitions, but in Europe as well, scoring against teams like Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Ajax, then managed by Ten Hag.

Thus, the manager will know from first hand experience, what Nunez is capable of and he could be the perfect solution up top for the club, with Edinson Cavani leaving and Cristiano Ronaldo 37 years of age.
