Erik ten Hag’s arrival as manager means that once again, there is some excitement around Old Trafford. The fans have not had a lot to be excited about in recent times. After a bright start to the 2021/22 campaign that saw them being hailed as potential Premier League title contenders, things completely fell apart for the Red Devils.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be shown the exit door in the middle of the season. Ralf Rangnick, who arrived as the interim manager, did not manage to improve the team either as they finished trophyless for the fifth straight season.

Thus, it is clear that a lot of changes are needed at Manchester United and one would expect them to back Ten Hag in the summer transfer window. And it looks like they are planning to make a move for one of his former players at Ajax.

As tweeted out by Alex Turk, Manchester United are expected to formalise a concrete offer to Ajax for Jurrien Timber, now that Ten Hag has officially started as the Red Devils’ manager with personal terms not believed to be a problem:

Still just 20 years of age, Timber is a centre-back currently playing for Ajax and has also represented the Netherlands national team on multiple occasions.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he made 43 appearances for Ajax in total through the course of the 2021/22 season.

Defence has been viewed as an area of weakness for Manchester United for some time now. The club would have been hoping that the arrival of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid last summer would solve their issues but that has not happened. The Frenchman has struggled and so have those around him and reinforcements are needed at the back.
