What Manchester United players said in dressing room revealed
Manchester United’s chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League suffered another blow, as they were handed a 4-1 defeat by Manchester City. The result means that Arsenal are ahead of the Red Devils by one point despite having played three games less and Chelsea are ahead of them by six points having played a couple of games less. Thus, the situation is not ideal for Ralf Rangnick’s side.
Unless, Manchester United go on an incredible winning run from here on, or either Chelsea or Arsenal, or both, struggle for results moving forward, it is hard to see the Red Devils finish in the top four this season.
Going into the game, Manchester United were always the underdogs, but when Jadon Sancho equalised in the 22nd minute, there must have been hopes that they could get something out of the match.
It was not to be though as Manchester City would score three unanswered goals and it ended 4-1 in favour of the hosts. As reported by Manchester Evening News, Scott McTominay told Sky Sports what was said in the Manchester United dressing room after the game:
"“The most disappointing thing for us is how sloppy we were in the second half and that’s been spoken about in the dressing room. When you come to a place like this, you know you’re still at the game at 2-1, you can’t give the ball away that easy.“Whenever you do that, you get punished. It comes down to individuals, it comes down to concentration, it comes down to how we deal with the expectation of playing for Manchester United and we can’t continue playing like that.”"
What Manchester United players said in the dressing after defeat against Manchester City
It is safe to say that it was not a great performance from Manchester United. Losing a game is always disappointing, and losing in this manner against your cross-town rivals, even more so. But, there is not a lot of time to reflect on this result, as the games keep coming on thick and fast.
At this point of time, the Champions League feels like their best chance of silverware this season and fortunately, they are in a good position in the competition.
They drew 1-1 away at Wanda Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid in the first leg and should be confident of their chances going into the second leg.
