Manchester United suffer Darwin Nunez transfer blow
Manchester United might need to sign a new striker soon as Edinson Cavani’s spell at the club appears to be edging closer to an end. Having left Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent, the Uruguayan joined the Red Devils in the 2020 summer transfer window. Although it was a free transfer, a lot of eyebrows were raised surrounding the move and whether he could get it done in the Premier League.
But soon, Cavani went on to prove his worth, enjoying a brilliant second half to the 2020/21 campaign and almost led the club to the Europa League. He quickly became a fan favourite and one of Manchester United’s most reliable goalscorers. Subsequently, he put pen to paper on a one-year extension.
This season, however, Cavani has not played much, especially following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo. Since rejoining the club, the Portuguese superstar has established himself as the first choice up top.
Other than that, fitness has been an issue for the Uruguayan. As such, it is believed that this will be his last season at Old Trafford.
Manchester United receive Darwin Nunez transfer blow
As reported by Record (via Sport Witness), a transfer fee of even €60 million would be regarded as “insufficient” for Darwin Nunez.
That was the transfer figure that Benfica were believed to have been looking for in the past but now, it looks like the Portuguese side have changed their stance, as Nunez continues to shine.
An Uruguayan international as well, Nunez is viewed by many as the perfect replacement for Cavani. The 22-year-old has been in tremendous form this season, proving his quality in Portugal as well as Europe. Is he someone though that Manchester United can rely upon, to come in and immediately lead the line for the Red Devils, because that is the kind of player that they might need next summer.
