Manchester United are expected to bring in a new manager in the summer when Ralf Rangnick’s interim run comes to an end. And it is safe to say that this next appointment is very important for the club, as they look to return to the top of the English game. As things stand, the Red Devils might be headed towards their fifth straight trophyless season, unless they end up winning the Champions League.
A wide number of managers have been linked with the Manchester United job. Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag, Brendan Rodgers, Simone Inzaghi, Luis Enrique and many other names have been brought up.
A surprise name that has been brought up in recent weeks is that of Carlo Ancelotti. Even though Real Madrid are top of the La Liga table right now, questions have been raised about his future at the club.
Ancelotti appears to have interest in the Manchester United job though. As reported by GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones said:
"“I’m hearing Carlo Ancelotti’s job at Real Madrid is not completely safe so let’s see how their Champions League second leg with PSG goes. He has always been interested in the Man United job, and vice-versa, so the sudden links between the two seem pretty timely.”"
Could Ancelotti be the next Manchester United manager?
Ancelotti is one of the most decorated managers of his generation and has managed several top clubs like Chelsea, AC Milan, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and others, enjoying success almost everywhere while also playing an attractive style of football.
If Manchester United end up bringing in Ancelotti, they will exactly know what they are getting. And while he might not be a long-term appointment, it is more important to get it right at the moment.
Of course, there are risks involved with both Pochettino and Ten Hag, the two favourites for the Manchester United job right now.
Pochettino has struggled at Paris Saint-Germain despite having one of the best teams ever assembled in club football history. On the other hand, Ten Hag has never managed a top flight club outside of the Netherlands.
