Manchester United are undergoing an underwhelming season this time around. They are already out of the two domestic cup competitions, the League Cup and the FA Cup, and both early round eliminations as well. And it would take a miracle for them to win the Premier League from here on. Thus, it does feel like the Red Devils are headed towards their fifth straight trophyless campaign unless they end up winning the Champions League somehow.

Of course, while unlikely, that is not impossible. The previous two winners, Chelsea and Bayern Munich, both had changed managers in the middle of the season after disappointing starts.

In the round of 16, Manchester United will take on Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, who are not going through a good season right now.

As a result, there is a good chance that Manchester United can win this tie and then they’ll be in the final 8. Anyone can win it from there.

Ronaldo has been the Achilles’ heel to Simeone’s sides over the years. It was very true when he was at Real Madrid and then the Portuguese superstar showed that during his spell at Juventus as well.

Thus, when Manchester United take on Atletico Madrid, having Ronaldo in their ranks would be a massive boost for them to say the least.

Ronaldo might not have been in great form this season but he has the habit of rising to the occasion and shine most when the spotlight is the brightest.

On the other hand, Atletico Madrid have struggled this season, and failed to hit the heights of the previous campaign, when they won the La Liga title.
