Manchester United are going through a rough phase right now. Following the arrival of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager, results had appeared to improve for the Red Devils but once again, this team has appeared to take a step back in recent weeks. They were knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough and have played out draws against Burnley and Southampton in the Premier League.
Thus, it is safe to say that things are far from ideal at the moment, as Manchester United will surely be looking to find a way to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
One of the main reasons behind Manchester United’s struggles this season has been the lack of form of some of their star players. Bruno Fernandes is a great example of that.
Fernandes was absolutely brilliant in his first season-and-a-half at Old Trafford but this season, things have appeared to dry up a bit for him, especially in the league. And Paul Scholes believes that he can be a bit of a problem for Rangnick. As reported by the Express, the Manchester United legend told BT Sport:
"“I think Fernandes could be a bit of a problem. As much as he’s a talented lad, when he first came to England, he scored so many good goals, so many assists, but he’s all over the football pitch.“A coach will tell you better there from a defensive point of view. How can you set up a shape when you’ve no idea where the start of it?“Ronaldo is the start; then it’s Fernandes – how can you set traps for teams when you don’t know where some of your players are gonna be?”"
Scholes calls Fernandes a problem for Manchester United
It is safe to say that Fernandes is a bit of an enigma. When things come off for him, he looks absolutely brilliant and one of the best in the world. But when they don’t, it is easy to point out the holes in his game as well.
There is no hiding from the fact that the Portuguese playmaker has not been at his best this season and perhaps that is the reason why he has been even more eager than usual to make things happen.
Things are not working for him at the moment though and as a result, one has to wonder whether he should continue to start regularly for Manchester United till the end of the season or they should try something different.
